Computer Programming

In our time, the use of computers in science and research centers is a must and cannot be denied. Due to this fact, in most science and research centers around the world, no matter what, they instill the use of computers. Computers have a very special place in every department and section of the Institute. Using new tools, strategies, and technology for providing information services, from the start, was one of the most important goals of the Institute.

Goals

The overall strategy of the Institute in education and research and in order to reach its goals is equipping its students with the latest technology. The following goals have been foreseen for the Computer Department of the Institute:


1. Promoting the use of advanced information technology in the Institute
2. Computerizing all research, educational, and official activities of the Institute
3. Preparing scientific computerized information
4. Providing computerized information services
5. Providing computer courses for all students, teachers, and employees of the Institute
 

Computer Management Section Equipment

The management team of the Computer Department of the Institute, with its short history, has been successful in developing computer programs to provide information services. They are very rapidly moving along and carrying out their plans. They have gathered all types of high-tech equipment and brought it into this section. Now, many researchers’ needs have been met. To have a better understanding of the equipment and rate of development, the following list was made:

1. Connection with the Worldwide Web (Internet)

Currently, the Institute’s computer network system is connected to the Internet by a direct line (64 kb/s).The Institute’s main server has the ability to provide a vast amount of Internet service.

2. Software Database

A software database was constructed and placed in the Institute’s Library for the teachers’ students’ researchers’ and professors’ use.

3. Computer Services

The computer management team provides valuable software and hardware services.

4. Internal Computerized Publications

In order to introduce our information and computer services to the public, as well as beneficial Islamic websites, our computer courses, and to update information, the management team took action in publishing a computer newsletter with the abbreviated name, Ara. The first issue was printed in November of 2000.

5. Updating, Preserving, and Supporting the Institute’s Computer Network system

Now, the Institute’s server serves over 300 stations. Updating and supporting these stations is a must. We discovered, with experience, that taking proper care of equipment and tools is more difficult than making the equipment itself. The management team has invested in taking proper care of all equipment and has even put forth a plan of procedure.

6. Design and Execution of the Institute’s Website

One of the works currently in progress is the much-needed websites for the Institute. This displays its enormous goals in research, education, and culture. The following websites are in progress:


a. The Institute’s site for its own works and information called the Qabas site.
b. The cultural site of the Institute which is related to all cultural works.
c. Ayatullah Misbah Yazdi’s site, which introduces his scientific and cultural character and displays his works.
 

7. Being an Internet Service Provider

The intention of this plan of which the initial steps have been taken is making a stronger connection between our research and the web.

8. Collecting needed software

In estimation, 50 software programs are still needed for various departments of the Institute. The following are currently being worked on:


a. Software for the Islamic Intellectual Sciences Encyclopedia
b. Software for all of Ayatullah Misbah Yazdi’s works
c. Further development of research software
d. Programming an electronic library
e. Software program for the Institute’s curriculum
f. Creating a University software program

9. Computer Courses

Various computer courses are available for teachers, researchers, students, professors, and employees of the Institute.
